CBD: A Blessing for Diabetic Individuals

Cannabidiol (CBD) has extraordinary health benefits. In fact, many users around the globe consider CBD products as a ‘cure for all’. Well, of course, the FDA has not approved all CBD products, except for the one which is prescribed to seizure patients, but it is because there is lack of studies in the matter. Besides, as more and more research is carried out, CBD gains more attention and popularity.

Effects of CBD on the Endocannabinoid System (ECS)

CBD stimulates the ECS by working with cannabinoid receptors. The thing is, our body already produces cannabinoids, but when we introduce CBD to our body, it helps in producing more cannabinoids. More cannabinoids help ECS in stimulating other body systems. As results of consuming CBD products like cbd sweets, body maintains equilibrium.

It is observed that individuals with an overactive ECS are more at risk of getting diabetes. CBD edibles help in regulating ECS as well. A balanced ECS regulates other body functions. Some of these functions are connected with diabetes.

CBD and Diabetes

Prevents obesity and thereby prevents diabetes

Obese individuals are more likely to get diabetes. Now, as per a study, individuals using marijuana had smaller waist size compared to the ones who do not use marijuana. People with smaller waist size are less likely to get diabetes.

Controls BP

Nearly 80% of individuals who have diabetes even suffer from hypertension. In one study, individuals who received CBD showed control in their blood pressure levels. It is believed that it has to do something with the stress relieving property of CBD.

Enhances sensitivity to Insulin

Some diabetes patients are not sensitive to insulin, and research suggests that CBD can increase sensitivity to insulin. As per one study, individuals who were exposed to CBD reported a significant drop in their blood glucose levels, as well as they were able to produce insulin better.

Helps with Retinopathy

Diabetes damages blood vessels in retina, and as a result most individuals with diabetes experience eye problems. Now, there are no clinical trials to ensure that CBD cures diabetic retinopathy, but in some animal studies, CBD has shown promising results. When diabetic animals were exposed to CBD, they showed decreased symptoms of eye problems.

Relieves Pain

Individuals with diabetes usually suffer from chronic pain and as a result one finds it difficult to perform normal routine activities. In one study, diabetic patients were asked to apply a spray on their body parts where they experienced neuropathic pain. Participants reported that after applying the spray, they experienced less pain.

CBD doesn’t treat diabetes

CBD products have surely shown to relieve a variety of issues associated with diabetes, but it is not exactly a treatment. Diabetic individuals will have to keep on monitoring their blood sugar levels even after taking CBD on regular basis.

Also, there is a chance that CBD might interact with other diabetes medication. Therefore, it is crucial that you seek doctor’s advice, if you are planning to take CBD for diabetes. Lastly, it is wise to say that, even though CBD products aren’t approved and need more research, if they show positive results, there is no harm in giving it a try.
